Introduction

The diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is often met with more than a bit of skepticism, especially from those who do not have the condition. ADHD has been historically stigmatized and not taken seriously. But many people with ADHD are finding ways to use their unique talents in innovative ways that lead to success at work, as well as in all aspects of life. I'm here to tell you that there are strategies you can use to manage ADHD successfully, even if it means working at some things slower than others because your mind "thinks" faster than others'.

Talk to your boss.

Tell your boss that you have ADHD and ask for accommodations. You may be surprised at how supportive many people can be, especially if they realize how hard it is to get things done when distracted by your condition.

You'll be surprised by how quickly these can add up over time!

Find a support system.

You can find a support system that understands you, and that will help you manage ADHD. A mentor is a great place to start. They can be someone in your organization who has similar problems as you, or it may be someone outside of work who’s willing to listen and offer advice—like friends and family members.

If you have trouble finding time for personal growth, talk to your boss about how they could help facilitate this by taking on more responsibility while delegating tasks where possible (for example: give me some space when I need it). If your company doesn't yet have an established policy around mental health issues (or if they don't recognize the importance of providing such resources), consider starting one yourself! It could be as simple as asking colleagues what their needs are—you might learn something new about yourself too!

Take medicine properly and consistently.

Medication is not a cure. It’s a treatment, and it can help you manage your symptoms by reducing stress, tension, anxiety and depression. Medication also makes you feel better by relieving headaches and migraines; controlling seizures; improving sleep quality (and thus increasing productivity); providing relief from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms such as cramping stomach pain or diarrhea; preventing allergic reactions such as skin rashes or hives when taking certain drugs like epinephrine injection in an emergency situation after eating foods containing peanuts or shellfish

Be open about it with your coworkers and supervisor at work when you're comfortable doing so, not just your boss.

Being open about ADHD is important for those who have it and their coworkers, but it's also important for other people in the workplace. Those who don't have ADHD have a chance to learn about this disorder, which can help them understand what you're going through and how they can be supportive when you need them most.

For example, if your coworker has ADHD, he or she may be able to help you manage work tasks more efficiently so that there is less fatigue or stress during busy times like deadlines or project deadlines. This person could also offer suggestions for improving organizational skills that would help make sure things get done as needed without causing too much stress on either party involved (you).
